Botanic Sound Lab

What does a celery bongo, a leek violin or a carrot flute sound like? Can a mountain of rotted fruit and vegetables become a sound installation?

We are Ulrike Gärtner and Albrecht Scharnweber, the founder of the Botanic-Sound-Laboratory. We research whether and how plants can sound. In the current project, we are examining vegetables for their suitability as an instrument with you, the participating children.

The vegetable orchestra will play for the first time on July 4th at 4:30 p.m. in the Festspielhaus Hellerau and we are looking for you to join in!

Open Call Hellerau

project: vegetable orchestra

Take part and join

All submissions of sounds with vegetable instruments are put together to form a large vegetable orchestra and presented online. Everyone who takes part gets a little surprise and also has the chance to play at the next concert on July 4th.
